How do I fly over terrain in Google Earth? All I seem to be able to do is look straight down on the location.?

I want the simple, horizontal view as if you are looking out over the terrain. I do NOT mean the flight simulator feature. All I seem to be able to do is zoom in and out directly above a geographical location. I can't find any simple directions in the tutorial or "help", so maybe I'm not using the right terminology when I search the googleearth "help" section.
